Chris Leslie MP, Labour’s Shadow Chancellor, following the Chancellor’s Statement on Greece in the House of Commons today, said:
“The crisis in Greece and the Eurozone poses serious risks for the rest of Europe as well as the UK.
“It is vital for the EU, the ECB and the IMF to continue to seek a settlement with the Greek authorities during the coming days. It is also imperative for the Greek government to accept its part in charting a course towards a long-term resolution and to deal with economic reform and governance questions.
“With a UK banking exposure of £7 billion to the Greek economy, and the recent closure of Greek banks, the priority for Ministers must now be to protect British exporters, pension funds and financial institutions, as well as the one million British visitors to Greece.”
