Scaramucci out as White House communications chief

Donald Trump has removed Anthony Scaramucci from the role of White House communications director just 10 days after naming the former hedge fund executive to the job.

Mr Scaramucci’s short tenure was marked with controversy, including a profanity-laced interview in which he criticised former White House chief of staff Reince Priebus.

The White House issued a statement saying: “Anthony Scaramucci will be leaving his role as White House communications director. Mr. Scaramucci felt it was best to give chief of staff John Kelly a clean slate and the ability to build his own team. We wish him all the best.”

The New York Times reported that the decision was made by John Kelly, who was named chief of staff last Friday. Mr Scaramucci had said when he was hired that he would report directly to President Trump.
